Not sure it is possible tooperate without one now.
Not sure if anyone actually pays in cash (wages etc) in fact there is a general move towards a cashless society.
I guess if you were self employed you may have a chance, it is either that or something out of the good life.

thats the point exactly, there are very few other options available to people to manage there money and there payments, and with many banks joining one another in mergers, pretty soon ther will be one or two banks available for folk to hold accounts,if that becomes the case then we are all being strangled by the balls, and will have to accept what rubbish in return the banks actually give us for making them exist in the first place,no bank account means the likely event of not being able to gain a mortage ,buy a car,etc etc etc,we are beholding totally to this system, and that being the case,we are all playing into there hands, its either do as the banks do, or,become totally self sufficient, which is not easy.
i feel that the banking systems have to be overhauled and upgraded to fit in with a fast changing world.
its complicated but i get sick of the banks holding all the cards.

Cheesey, there are still one or two mutual Building Societies around - i.e. they are owned by their investors (account holders) rather than by shareholders - so no dividends etc.
Another alternative are Credit Unions which operate along the lines of the original concept of co-operatives and mutual Building Societies.
There are also "pre-paid" Credit Cards that can be used to receive your wages. They operate like pre-paid mobile phones in that you load them with an amount of cash & can then use them just like a Credit Card - but only to the limit of the amount pre-loaded.
If you really want to make a protest about the *ankers then hit them where it hurts & transfer your millions to one of the above![]()
